Bursary in honour of The Honourable Jim Flaherty

UOIT graciously accepts a donation from Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) in memory of The Honourable Jim Flaherty, who passed away suddenly in 2014.

Jim Flaherty Memorial Bursary

The bursary in Jim Flaherty's name will support students with special needs enrolled in a course related to manufacturing at UOIT. Through its national membership, CME is building an endowment fund of more than $100,000 to support an annual bursary for as many students as possible.

"Jim was certainly a strong champion of manufacturing across Canada and he also made tremendous contributions in his community, such as helping establish the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and the Abilities Centre in Whitby," said Jayson Myers, President and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters. "For many of us, Jim was a colleague and friend. He gave his life for public service and was dedicated to providing life skills and educational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. CME is honoured to establish a legacy in support of two causes that were so important to him."
